Crossmark Policy

Purpose of the Policy and Crossmark Status

Geliotekhnika intends to use Crossref’s Crossmark service to display the current status of published scholarly content transparently, track post-publication changes, and preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Crossmark enables readers to determine whether an article is current or whether a correction, retraction notice, Expression of Concern, or other significant update has been issued after publication.

Publication of this policy on the journal website does not, by itself, mean that Crossmark has been technically activated. Crossmark becomes operational for an individual item only after the relevant metadata have been registered with Crossref and the Crossmark button has been correctly implemented on the journal webpage and in the publication files.

Scope of Application

Once Crossmark is implemented, the journal will apply it consistently to all new scholarly content registered under this policy. Crossmark will not be applied selectively only to articles that have been updated.

The Crossmark button will be included in:

  • the official article landing page;

  • the HTML version of the article, where available;

  • the article PDF;

  • ePub and other supported digital formats, where available;

  • correction, retraction, Expression of Concern, and other official update notices.

Use of the Crossmark Button

The presence of the Crossmark button does not mean that an article has been changed. Readers should click the button to verify its current status and any updates registered with Crossref.

Crossmark is not, by itself, a guarantee of the accuracy of an article’s content. It is a mechanism for viewing status and update metadata supplied by the journal.

The Crossmark mark will be used in the form specified by Crossref. It must not be materially altered, redrawn, or used in a misleading manner. Only its size may be adjusted within the applicable technical requirements.

Technical Implementation Requirements

To implement Crossmark fully, the journal and its technical publishing service provider must:

  • create a persistent webpage for this update policy and assign it a DOI;

  • register the policy DOI and Crossmark metadata with Crossref;

  • deposit the relevant Crossmark metadata for articles;

  • place the button on webpages using the official Crossref script and technical requirements;

  • provide a functioning Crossmark link in PDFs and other supported digital formats;

  • register metadata for post-publication updates promptly.

Crossmark metadata, article landing pages, PDF files, DOI records, and official update notices must remain consistent with one another.

Significant Updates to Be Registered

The journal will use Crossmark to register post-publication changes that materially affect the interpretation, citation, authorship, or reliability of the scholarly record. These may include:

  • a correction or erratum notice;

  • retraction of an article;

  • withdrawal or cancellation of a publication;

  • an Expression of Concern;

  • an addendum or substantial supplement;

  • a significant change in authorship, author order, or attribution;

  • a correction affecting results, data, images, tables, calculations, or interpretation;

  • the removal, replacement, or restoration of significant content;

  • another update materially affecting the reliability or scholarly status of the article.

Each case will be assessed individually under the journal’s applicable editorial and publication-ethics policies.

Minor and Technical Changes

Minor spelling, typographical, formatting, or technical errors that do not affect meaning, scientific conclusions, interpretation, authorship, or citation information may be corrected without a separate update notice.

Such changes must not be used to conceal the history of the scholarly record or to present a substantively important correction as a minor technical change. The Editorial Office will determine whether a separate notice and Crossmark registration are required by considering the scientific and bibliographic significance of the change.

Corrections, Retractions, and Other Official Notices

A significant correction, retraction, withdrawal, Expression of Concern, or other post-publication action will normally:

  • be published as a separate, clearly identified official notice;

  • explain the reason for the action and its effect on the article;

  • state its publication date;

  • be linked electronically in both directions with the affected article;

  • receive a separate DOI where applicable;

  • be registered in the Crossmark and Crossref metadata of the affected article.

The notice must be transparent, accurate, and not misleading. Where confidentiality or legal restrictions apply, the reasons will be explained as fully as possible without infringing the relevant rights.

Preservation of the Original Article and Prohibition of Silent Changes

The original article will normally remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record and will be clearly marked where a correction, retraction, or other significant notice applies.

The journal will not make unannounced substantive changes that obscure the publication history. Necessary changes will be documented through a separate notice, clear article-page labelling, DOI relationships, and Crossmark metadata.

Content removal will be used only in exceptional legal, ethical, confidentiality, or safety circumstances defined in the journal’s separate Content Removal Policy. Even then, the bibliographic record and a notice explaining the reason for removal will be retained where possible.

Responsibilities and Authority

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board make editorial decisions concerning corrections, retractions, Expressions of Concern, and other post-publication action.

The Editorial Office is responsible for:

  • reviewing errors and ethical concerns;

  • approving the text of an official update;

  • linking the update to the affected article;

  • checking the accuracy of notices on article pages and in publication files.

On the basis of decisions approved by the Editorial Office, I-EDU GROUP LLC deposits metadata with Crossref, registers DOI relationships, and supports the technical operation of the Crossmark button. It does not independently make editorial decisions to correct or retract an article.

Authors must promptly inform the Editorial Office if they identify a significant error, inaccuracy, or ethical concern in a published article and must cooperate with any review.

Additional Publication Information

Where available and verified, a Crossmark record may provide additional information concerning:

  • manuscript receipt, revision, acceptance, and publication dates;

  • peer-review status and review model;

  • similarity-screening information;

  • funding sources;

  • conflicts of interest;

  • ethics approval and informed consent;

  • data availability;

  • copyright and licensing;

  • author identifiers and affiliations;

  • other verified metadata about the editorial process.

Additional information will be registered only when it is accurate, verified, and maintained in a current state.

Previously Published Archive Content

Crossmark will be applied consistently to new content published and technically registered under this policy.

Application of Crossmark to archive content published under a previous publishing model depends on the availability of rights, authority to manage DOI and metadata, and technical feasibility. Crossmark does not apply automatically to previously published content.

Where possible, the journal will seek to register Crossmark and the relevant update relationships for back-year content that has been updated, corrected, or retracted.

Relationship with Other Policies

This policy should be read together with the journal’s:

Where policies differ, the specific policy directly applicable to the relevant post-publication case and the governing ethical and legal requirements will apply.

Policy Administration

This policy takes effect from the date of its publication on the official website of Geliotekhnika and applies to content registered by the journal in the Crossmark system.

Technical participation in Crossmark becomes fully operational after the policy DOI has been registered with Crossref, the relevant content metadata have been deposited, and the button has been implemented in all digital formats.
