Data and Reproducibility Policy

Geliotekhnika supports transparency, verifiability, and reproducibility in scientific research. Authors must provide sufficient information to allow readers, reviewers, and other researchers to understand, evaluate, and, where possible, reproduce the reported work.

This policy applies to primary and processed data, computer code, algorithms, mathematical and computational models, simulations, software, experimental protocols, materials, equipment settings, calibration records, and other research resources supporting the conclusions of an article.

Data Availability Statement

Every research article must include a Data Availability Statement indicating where and under what conditions the data, code, models, software, materials, or other resources supporting the findings can be accessed.

As appropriate, the statement must indicate that:

  • the resources are openly available in a trusted repository with a DOI, accession number, or persistent link;

  • the resources are included in the article or its supplementary materials;

  • the resources are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request;

  • access to the resources is partly or wholly restricted, with an explanation of the reason;

  • no new data were created or analysed for the article.

The statement must be specific, meaningful, and verifiable. Unexplained statements such as “data are available” or “data are unavailable” are insufficient.

Suggested statements include:

The data supporting the findings of this study are openly available in [repository name] at [DOI or persistent link].

The data supporting the findings of this article are available within the article and its supplementary materials.

The data from this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request. The data are not publicly available because of [specific reason].

The data cannot be made publicly available because of [confidentiality, legal, ethical, commercial, or third-party restrictions]. Access may be considered subject to [relevant conditions or authorised body].

Research Materials and Scope

Supporting research materials may include, where applicable:

  • raw and processed datasets;

  • solar-radiation and meteorological observation data;

  • current-voltage characteristics, efficiency measurements, and degradation data for photovoltaic systems;

  • measurements from solar thermal systems, collectors, concentrators, and energy-storage devices;

  • spectra, thermograms, microscopy images, and other scientific images;

  • experimental protocols, equipment descriptions, calibration information, and measurement uncertainty;

  • computer code, scripts, algorithms, and computational logs;

  • mathematical models, simulation parameters, and input and output files;

  • statistical analysis plans and other materials required to produce the results.

Authors should provide sufficient metadata, a README file, descriptions of variables, units of measurement, file formats, and instructions necessary for appropriate use of the resources.

Repository Deposit

Authors are encouraged to deposit data and other research materials in a trusted discipline-specific or general-purpose repository. A DOI, accession number, or other persistent identifier should be obtained where possible.

The repository should preferably provide:

  • long-term preservation;

  • a persistent identifier;

  • clear access and licensing conditions;

  • version control;

  • metadata identifying the author, date, and description of the data;

  • controlled or restricted access where necessary.

A personal website, temporary cloud folder, or link without guaranteed persistence is not, by itself, considered an adequate form of long-term preservation.

Exceptions to Open Availability

Open access to data is not mandatory where justified restrictions arise from:

  • confidentiality or privacy;

  • intellectual property rights;

  • commercial or contractual obligations;

  • legal or ethical requirements;

  • security considerations;

  • third-party ownership;

  • justified technical limitations.

Where access is restricted, authors must explain the specific reason, identify the materials affected, and, where legally and practically possible, describe a process for controlled access or access upon reasonable request.

The existence of a restriction does not remove the requirement to provide a Data Availability Statement.

Citation of Data, Code, and Software

Published datasets, code, software, models, and other independent research resources must be appropriately cited in the reference list.

Where possible, a citation should include the author or creator, resource title, repository or publisher, year, version, and persistent identifier.

Authors should select an appropriate licence for data and code that explains the conditions of reuse and must respect the rights and restrictions applying to third-party materials.

Methodological Transparency

Authors must describe the research design, methods, materials, equipment, calculations, mathematical and computational models, software, and analytical procedures in sufficient detail to support scientific evaluation and reproduction.

The following should be clearly reported:

  • research conditions, selection criteria, and experimental parameters;

  • important assumptions, boundary conditions, and initial conditions;

  • procedures for data cleaning, exclusion, transformation, and processing;

  • measurement uncertainty, calibration, and quality control;

  • statistical methods and analysis criteria;

  • software, packages, libraries, and their versions;

  • important methodological limitations and factors that may affect the results.

Code, Models, and Computational Results

Where the principal conclusions of an article depend on custom code, an algorithm, a mathematical model, or a simulation, authors should, where possible, provide the code, parameters, input data, software environment, and execution instructions required to verify the results.

When proprietary software is used, the product name, version, developer, and important settings should be reported. If custom code cannot be made openly available, the reason for the restriction and the essential algorithmic process must be described in sufficient detail.

Where artificial intelligence or a machine-learning model is used, authors must also comply with the journal’s Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools.

Accuracy and Preservation of Research Records

Authors are responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the data and materials supporting their manuscript.

Original research records should be stored securely for a period consistent with applicable institutional, funder, ethical, contractual, and legal requirements.

Where reasonably necessary to verify published findings, support peer review, or investigate a research-integrity concern, the journal may request confidential access to relevant materials.

Peer Review and Editorial Assessment

Reviewers may evaluate the accuracy of the Data Availability Statement, the adequacy of the methods, and the extent to which the supporting materials substantiate the article’s conclusions.

Where necessary, the Editorial Office may request additional data, code, models, protocols, permissions, or other supporting materials. Materials supplied confidentially will be protected in accordance with the journal’s confidentiality requirements.

Replication and Reproducibility Studies

The journal welcomes scientifically sound replication and reproducibility studies. Such manuscripts are evaluated according to the same standards of relevance, methodological quality, transparency, and peer review as other scientific articles.

Failure to confirm a previous result is not, by itself, grounds for rejection. The research method must be justified, objective, and described in sufficient detail.

Post-Publication Issues

If an error in the data, code, model, or methodological description is discovered after publication, authors must notify the journal promptly.

Depending on the nature of the issue and its effect on the findings, the journal may update the Data Availability Statement or publish a correction, an editorial Expression of Concern, or a retraction notice.

Non-Compliance

False statements about data availability, concealment of relevant materials, fabrication or falsification of data or code, or refusal to provide supporting evidence without a valid reason may result in an editorial investigation.

The journal may:

  • request an explanation or additional materials;

  • suspend editorial consideration;

  • reject the manuscript or withdraw the acceptance decision;

  • correct the published article, issue an Expression of Concern, or retract the article;

  • notify the authors’ institution or another competent authority where appropriate;

  • investigate the matter under the journal’s Research and Publication Misconduct Allegations Policy.

Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond and provide relevant evidence before a final decision is made.

Policy Administration

This policy is effective from the date of its publication on the official website of Geliotekhnika and will be reviewed periodically in response to developments in publication ethics, open science, data protection, and reproducibility standards.
