History of the Journal

The international scientific journal Geliotekhnika began publication in Tashkent in January 1965. In bibliographic catalogues, its Soviet-period issues are recorded as an All-Union scientific journal of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek SSR. The journal’s early issues were published by the Fan Publishing House.

The journal was established as a specialised academic platform for disseminating the results of fundamental and applied research in solar energy and solar engineering. It published studies on solar radiation, photovoltaic and thermal conversion of solar energy, solar installations and power plants, concentrators, energy materials, energy storage, solar-powered water supply and desalination, and other fields of renewable energy.

Following the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the journal continued publication under the title Geliotekhnika within the system of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The journal is founded by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and is a scientific publication of the S.A. Azimov Institute of Physics and Technology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On 12 December 2006, the journal was re-registered by the Information and Communication Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The official records of the Institute indicate Registration Certificates Nos. 0077 and 004780-10.

For an extended period, materials published in the journal were translated into English and disseminated internationally through Applied Solar Energy. Archived bibliographic records and article metadata confirm that the original Russian texts of a number of papers were first published in Geliotekhnika and subsequently appeared in English in Applied Solar Energy. This historical cooperation contributed to the international dissemination of research results produced by scientists from Uzbekistan and other countries in the field of solar energy.

At present, this historical relationship does not mean that the two titles constitute the same publication. Geliotekhnika and Applied Solar Energy have separate titles, ISSNs, publishing models and publication records. Information concerning the indexing, bibliometric indicators and publishing status of Applied Solar Energy relates exclusively to that journal and does not automatically apply to Geliotekhnika.

Geliotekhnika is registered by the ISSN International Centre as a scientific publication of the Republic of Uzbekistan:

Continuing the scientific traditions established in 1965, the journal serves as a platform for publishing original research articles, review papers and short scientific communications in solar energy, renewable energy sources, energy materials and related engineering technologies. The journal’s current activities are based on the principles of academic integrity, independent peer review, editorial responsibility and internationally recognised standards of scientific publishing.
